Tragedy struck the ONE on TNT 1 card when Eddie Alvarez was disqualified against Iuri Lapicus in the first round.

Despite a dominant opening to the bout for Alvarez, he was disqualified due to illegal strikes to the back of the head.

The verdict was met with harsh controversy, as Alvarez adamantly denied that the blows hit the back of the head. On top of this, there was clearly no intent to strike the back of the head as Alvarez was immensely apologetic directly afterwards.

Fortunately, the verdict has been overturned. The loss has been stricken from Alvarez’s record and will now be presented as a No Contest.

Eddie Alvarez returns this Wednesday at ONE on TNT IV opposite Ok Rae Yoon.
