Before the UFC 267 broadcast today, news was broken that Bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling has pulled out of his scheduled rematch with Petr Yan, set to go down at UFC 267.
Sterling claimed gold via disqualification after being g hit by a knee from Petr Yan while on the ground. HIs antics in possibly avoiding the rematch have been long bashed by fans, referring to him as the “Paper Champ”.
Also pulled out due to lingering neck issues that have been plaguing him since his college wrestling days, though the massive knee to the head from Yan probably didn’t help.
The promotion is looking to keep Yan on the card in an interim title fight and while Sterling’s replacement is by no means booked, Cory Sandhagen is the current frontrunner.
