Luke Rockhold stated in an interview with Ariel Helwani that he was recently offered a contract to fight Khamzat CHimaev on the August 28th Fight Night card as the five-round main event.
Though Rockhold accepted both that fight as well as a three-round affair against Chimaev on the 7th of August, the Chechnyan turned down the contest.
Chimaev said that he intends to focus on Welterweight right now, and is pursuing the title in that division.
Rockhold responsed to this, stating, “All respect but I thought he would fight anyone.”
Luke Rockhold has not competed since a July 2019 defeat to Jan Blachowicz, where he was knockout out in the second round. The former champion has not competed at Middleweight since February of 2018 and is currently riding two straight knockout defeats.
Khamzat Chimaev made headlines through all of 2020 before suffering a tough case of COVID-19 and nearly retiring. He is yet to fight in 2021, with multiple scrapped bookings between him and Leon Edwards.
Hopefully both these fighters can find opponents soon, as MMA fans are desperately missing them from the Octagon.
