Islam Makhachev vs. Thiago Moises to Now Headline July 17th UFC Event

The scheduled Fight Night event for July 17th recently received a huge blow, with its main event being cancelled. Though a ranked challenger offered to step in, the bout is being postponed.

The Lightweight contest between Islam Makhachev and Thiago Moises will now headline the event, per John Morgan of MMAJunkiue.com. The fight will take place at 155 pounds and is scheduled for five, five-minute rounds.

Islam Makhachev (19-1) moved into the #10 spot in the Lightweight rankings following a submission over Drew Dober, and is now on the verge of contendership. Islam is the cousin and best friend of former champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and has a similar dominance when wrestling, but has slicker striking as well. He has struggled to find opponents, as few want to take a risky bout against the Dagestani.

Thiago Moises (15-4) came into the UFC from the Contender Series, and went 1-2 in his first three bouts, all decisions. He is perfect since, submitting Michael Johnson and beating Alexander Hernandez and Bobby Green in decisions. He has solid grappling and a good output on the feet, but is certainly the best when attacking on the mat. Though he was unranked when this fight was announced, he now occupies the #14 slot.

This Fight Night card is set to go down in roughly three weeks, with many other high profile bouts adorning the card!
