The Light Heavyweight title will be on the line come September 25th when Jan Blachowicz faces off with Glover Teixeira at UFC 266.
Though the original date has been shifted, the lineup still stands and this championship bout has a lot of heat behind it as veteran Glover Teixeira has been on a tear as of late, while Blachowicz just made his first defense over superstar Israel Adesanya.
Another Light Heavyweight contender has been tearing up the ranks, as Jiri Prochazka scored a highlight reel spinning backlist knockout KO over Dominick Reyes to solidify himself as a top contender.
It seems that Prochazka may serve as the backup for the title fight, as he stated in an interview: “I don’t know if it’s official or [if] I can speak about it publicly. All I can say is that we are under negotiations so I can be the reserve fighter in the belt dispute between Jan Blachowicz and Glover Teixeira. But we didn’t sign anything yet.”
Prochazka is on a twelve-fight winning streak including two straight wins in the UFC since coming over as RIZIN’s 205 pound champ. The all-action brawler is a hell of a backup to this Light Heavyweight collision should any last minute mishaps take place.
