Jiri Prochazka made serious waves in the Light Heavyweight division last night, as he brutally knocked out Dominick Reyes with a spinning back elbow.
This was his second win in the UFC following another one punch KO in his debut against Volkan Oezdemir, moving the former RIZIN champion to 28-3-1 in his career.
Prior to this fight, Prochazka was ranked at #5 in the LHW division, and this victory over the #3 Reyes will likely afford him Reyes’ spot. This leaves just two men ahead of Jiri in the rankings in Aleksander Rakic and Glover Texeira, who will challenge Jan Blachowicz for the title in September.
With twenty-five career wins by knockout, “Denisa” has quickly built a reputation as one of the most wild strikers in the UFC. His brawling nature and awkward striking style composed of low hands and strikes from all angles present a difficult puzzle to solve, only made more difficult with his inhuman cardio and pacing.
With Teixiera and Blachowicz set to go at it in four months, Prochazka will likely find his next matchup in Aleksander Rakic as a title shot eliminator.
Prochazka has all the tools to work over Rakic, with his supreme cardio, constant output and one-shot power always at the ready. On top of that, his style presents problems for the cardio issues of Blachowicz and durability concerns of Glover, giving him an interesting future in the Light Heavyweight division.
We will see in the coming months how things shake out, but the LHW division is primed for some fun fights in the near future!
