Modafferi to Fight Suarez at UFC 266

The Pay-Per-View (PPV) of September just got a whole lot hotter, as the Women’s Flyweight division just got a new ranked matchup. Roxanne Modafferi will take on Tatiana Suarez on September 25th, as first reported by Ariel Helwani.

Roxanne Modafferi (25-18) has traded wins and losses like clockwork since joining the UFC with the inception of the division back during Season 26 of the Ultimate Fighter. She has an awkward striking style with skilled top control and positioning, last seen dropping a decision to Viviane Araujo.

This will be the first fight for Tatiana Suarez (8-0) since June 2019, where she scored a decision over Nina Ansaroff (now Nina Nunes). She is making her debut at Flyweight after soaring straight into the title picture at 115 pounds after winning the 23rd season of The Ultimate Fighter, though she suffered a neck injury that forced a hiatus.

This is a fun veteran vs. prospect matchup, though I expect Suarez to open as a heavy favorite on the betting odds. UFC 266 is currently set to be headline by Alexander Volkanovski and Brian Ortega following this bout being postponed.
