Gervonta Davis Becomes Triple Champ with Knockout Over Barrios

Tonight on Showtime Boxing, star Lightweight champ Gervonta “Tank” Davis made his move from 130 up to 140 pounds in a bid to earn his third current World Boxing Association (WBA) title.

Tank Davis (25-0, 24 KOs) already held the Super Featherweight and Lightweight titles, but now has extended his legacy with his fight against Mario Barrios (27-1).

Davis and Barrios battled it out tonight, June 26th, with an extremely close and entertaining fight.

Davis won by TKO in the eleventh round, but fought through some serious adversity, certainly losing the first few rounds. He was at a clear size disparity at just 5’6″.

Barrios found success with his pressure and jab and midway through the fight, it appeared Davis was on the way to his first loss. However, the eighth round saw Davis knock Barrios down twice early and there was a clear momentum shift.

After a violent back and forth in round nine, Davis knocked Barrios down with a massive body shot, and finished the job with his next punch. Barrios had never been knocked down prior to this bout.

This victory will rocket Davis to super stardom, already a huge draw due to his furious knockout power and affiliation with the Mayweather Promotions team.
