Oliveira Scores KO over Chandler to Become Lightweight Champ

The UFC 262 card was full of back and forth wars and the main event was no different.

The bout between Charles Oliveira and Michael Chandler was pure chaos from the start, with Chandler tagging Oliveira and threatening a submission, to Oliveira riding Chandler’s back, to a Chandler knockdown that almost saw the American’s hand raised.

Despite the first round in the bag for Chandler with two judges scoring it a 10-8, Oliveira needed just nineteen seconds of the second round to knock out the former Bellator world champion, claiming his 31st pro win along with the Lightweight title.

This win also earned Oliveira a $75K Performance of the Night bonus and the record for most finishes inside the UFC.

Lightweight has long been seen as one of the most stacked divisions in the UFC, so Oliveira has a number of challengers waiting on his doorstep. Firstly, the trilogy bout between Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor will likely produce the next title challenger, while contenders like Justin Gaethje and Beneil Dariush, who dominated Tony Ferguson in the co-main, wait on the sidelines.
