UFC Las Vegas Predictions: Yan vs. Dvalishvili

The UFC is continuing its run of action from Las Vegas, Nevada, but this is no ordinary Apex Fight Night. The Octagon will be visiting The Theater at the Virgin Hotels for a fourteen-bout Fight Night card.

In the main event, top five Bantamweights collide as former champion Petr Yan looks to get back on the winning track against his rival’s teammate, Merab Dvalishvili. Dangerous Heavyweights lock horns in the co-main event as Alexander Volkov looks to make another run at the top five at the expense of the always-aggressive Alexandr Romanov.

Main Card

Petr Yan (16-4) vs. Merab Dvalishvili (15-4) (BW)

This is excellent matchmaking, as Yan is looking for a chance to right his current losing streak and has the opportunity to do so against his rival Sterling’s teammate, Merab. The former champion has elite level boxing and is as technical as they come, constantly switching stances while picking up his work rate as the fight goes. Merab is aptly nicknamed “The Machine”, bringing a relentless pressure and work rate, whether it’s striking volume, constant clinch fighting, or ceaseless takedown entries. I am expecting a battle of attrition in this fight and while I expect Merab to ground this fight on a few occassions, Yan’s defensive wrestling should get him back to the feet quickly, as the Russian sports a much higher takedown defense against the single and double tag entries Merab prefers. I expect Yan’s striking IQ to break Merab down after early success from the Georgian, resulting in a late Yan TKO or close decision nod.
