The next Flyweight title fight has just been booked, as Brandon Moreno will defend his belt against the man he took it from, Deiveson Figueiredo, at UFC 269.
Brandon Moreno (19-5-2) earned a title shot after three straight UFC wins in his second promotional stint. He battled to a draw with Figueiredo in their FOTY candidate at UFC 256, then claimed the belt with a third round submission in their rematch at UFC 263. “The Assassin Baby” is a fan favorite, down to scrap on the feet and scramble on the mat.
Deivison Figueiredo quickly became a fan favorite, due to his strength of schedule and finishing prowess. He claimed the Flyweight title with two dominant finishes over the recently retired Joseph Benavidez, though the first was marred due top Figgy missing weight. Following his first defense opposite Alex Perez, a first round submission, he battled it out with Moreno on three weeks’ notice to a draw, before being submitted in their following encounter.
Though I am sure Alexandre Pantoja has more than a few complaints about this booking, this is a fireworks matchup of styles sure to get viewers engaged to the highlight UFC 269 event, set to take place on December 11th.
