A battle of rising Middleweight prospects has just been booked, as Dricus du Plessis and Andre Muniz will square off at UFC 269.
Andre Muniz (21-4) finally made his way to the Octagon with a Contender Series submission victory. Since then, he has won three straight fights with his most recent being an inverted armbar against legend Jacare Souza that broke his arm, resulting in the latter’s first submission loss. “Sergipano” has a high level grappling background with an improving striking arsenal to back it up. He currently inhabits the #15 slot in the Middleweight rankings.
South African Dricus du Plessis (16-2) came to the UFC on short notice to take on Markus Perez, though he needed just over three minutes to score a highlight reel left hook knockout. His second appearance showed more of the same, as he flattened Trevin Giles early in the second round of their July meeting to extend his win streak to four. All of “Stillknocks” wins have come inside the distance, with nine via submission.
This is a ferocious matchup of white-hot prospects sure to deliver a memorable fight. They will clash on the UFC 269 card, set to take place on December 11th.
