Two ranked fighters have just been removed from the UFC fighter pool today, as both Demian Maia and Jimmie Rivera are no longer under contract with the organization.
Demian Maia (28-11) has been widely regarded as one of the greatest submission artists of his generation. He extended himself to one final three fight winning streak in 2019, capped off with a submission over Ben Askren. Recent efforts have not gone as well, suffering a knockout to Gilbert Burns before dropping a decision to Belal Muhammad.
Jimmie Rivera (23-5) has been a top contender at Bantamweight for nearly his entire UFC tenure. After a year away from competition, Rivera returned for a decision win over Cody Stamann before losing a decision in his rematch to Pedro Munhoz.
Both fighters have been removed from the rankings pool following their contracts running out. Both have been removed from the rankings, being replaced by Robbie Lawler and Raulian Paiva, respectively.
