UFC Vegas 30: Gane vs. Volkov Prelims Predictions

Yancy Medeiros vs. Damir Hadžović

Yancy Medeiros is an American fighting out of Makaha, Hawaii with a professional record (PR) of 15-7-0 and a UFC record (UFCR) of 6-7. He is currently ranked #77 lightweight worldwide. Yancy comes out of 3 straight losses and averaging only one fight per year but I think he’ll the physical advantage here.

+ Height and reach advantage

+ Tougher competition in his last fights

Damir “The Bosnian Bomber” Hadžović is a Bosniak fighting out of Esbjerg, Denmark with a professional record (PR) of 13-6-0 and a UFC record (UFCR) of 3-4. He is currently ranked #57 lightweight worldwide. Hadžović comes out of 2 losses. His last fight was an early stoppage due to a submission

– Health issue last month (fever and sore throat)

+ Slightly more active fighter

Pick: Yancy Medeiros to Win by Decision

Coin-flip bout here. We’ll see who’ll show up, but the value bet is definitely on Medeiros. I think he’s the underdog here due his inactivity and previous 3 losses but, in my opinion his competition was a little bit tougher. I think his size advantage will pay out in this one.

Charles Rosa vs. Justin Jaynes

Charles “Boston Strong” Rosa is an American fighting out of Boynton Beach, Florida with a professional record (PR) of 13-5-0 and a UFC record (UFCR) of   4-5. He is currently ranked #84 featherweight worldwide. He still hasn’t got a winning streak in the UFC. He loses but always bounces back in the next fight so, I think the same will happen here against a weaker opponent, in theory.

+ Fought good competition

+ More well-rounded than his opponent

+ Height and reach advantage

Justin” Guitar Hero” Jaynes is an American fighting out of Las Vegas, Nevada with a professional record (PR) of 16-7-0 and a UFC record (UFCR) of 1-3. He is currently ranked #247 featherweight worldwide. Comes out of 3 straight losses in the UFC (got finished in all of them). He has only one win in the UFC, on his debut but I think he has yet to prove he’s UFC material.

+ Younger fighter

+ More KO power

Pick: Charles “Boston Strong” Rosa to Win via Submission

He has the best record in the UFC and has faced better competition in the octagon than his opponent. Everything can happen of course, but I think Rosa to win is the best bet.

Julia Avila vs. Julija Stoliarenko

Julia “Raging Panda” Avila is an American fighting out of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma with a professional record (PR) of 8-2-0 and a UFC record (UFCR) of 2-1. She is currently ranked #15 bantamweight worldwide. In theory this should be an easy fight for Julia. Her opponent is a submission artist, and she should be ok if the fight stays on the feet.

+ More well-rounded

Julija Stoliarenko is a Lithuanian fighting out of Kaunas, Lithuania with a professional record (PR) of 9-4-1 and a UFC record (UFCR) of 0-2. She is currently ranked #19 bantamweight worldwide. This will be the second fight for Stoliarenko since her comeback to the UFC. She’s definitely a submission artist and she can do it here. But that’s really the only way I see her getting the win here.

–  Low KO power (0 KO/TKO in her career)

+ Younger fighter

Pick:  Julia “Raging Panda” Avila to Win.

Julia should win this fight. Everything can happen but if Avila avoids those takedowns this should be an easy fight for the American.

Marcin Prachnio vs. Ike Villanueva

Marcin Prachnio is a Polish fighting out of Amsterdam, Netherlands with a professional record (PR) of 14-5-0 and a UFC record (UFCR) of 1-3. He is currently ranked #36 light heavyweight worldwide. Comes out of 3 losses in the UFC. He’s yet to prove he’s UFC material but I think this matchup could be good for him.

+ Younger fighter

+ Height and reach advantage

Ike “Hurricane” Villanueva is an American fighting out of Houston, Texas with a professional record (PR) of 18-11-0 and a UFC record (UFCR) of 1-2. He is currently ranked #63 light heavyweight worldwide. Won his last UFC fight but against a not so strong opponent. I don’t see much in favor of Ike except his KO power. And I think that’ll be a big factor in this fight. I think he’s the tougher guy and I think someone’s getting KO’d in this one.

+ Huge KO power (15 career wins by TKO/KO)

Pick: Ike “Hurricane” Villanueva to Win by TKO/KO

I think someone’s getting KO’d in this one and I favor Ike because I think he’s the tougher guy. He’s also the underdog in this one so I think this is a nice value bet.

Warlley Alves vs. Jeremiah Wells

Warlley Alves is a Brazilian fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil with a professional record (PR) of 14-4-0 and a UFC record (UFCR) of 8-4. He is currently ranked #26 welterweight worldwide. Alves is a veteran, did a full camp. I think this is a no brainer here. I really don’t see his opponent getting the best of him.

+ Younger fighter

+ More experience in the UFC

+ Height advantage

Jeremiah Wells is an American fighting out of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with a professional record (PR) of 8-2-1. He’ll be making his UFC debut. He was last ranked #183 welterweight worldwide. Wells will get his first shot in the UFC taking this fight on a very short notice. This will be against a very strong opponent, so I don’t think he’ll be successful here. If he was younger, it could be a different story, but he isn’t exactly a prospect here.

– Took the fight on short notice

– Making his UFC debut

Pick: Warlley Alves to Win

Everything can happen inside the octagon, but everything favors Alves, in my opinion. He had a full camp and he’s a very experienced fighter in the UFC, unlike his opponent. He has all the advantages to win here. It’d be a big surprise if he lost this fight.

Michel Prazeres vs. Shavkat Rakhmonov

Michel “Trator” Prazeres is a Brazilian fighting out of Belem, Brazil with a professional record (PR) of 26-3-0 and a UFC record (UFCR) of 10-3. He is currently ranked #57 welterweight worldwide. The UFC veteran hasn’t fought since Feb 2019, in a fight in which he lost. If he gets this fight to the ground, he might have a shot to win this bout. But I think it’ll be difficult for him to control Rakhmonov in the first round. If the fight goes to distance, it could be a whole different story.

– Low KO power

Shavkat Rakhmonov is a Kazakh fighting out of Kokshetau, Kazakhstan with a professional record (PR) of 13-0-0 and a UFC record (UFCR) of 1-0. He is currently ranked #34 welterweight worldwide. This fight will be a test for Rakhmonov against a very experienced grappler who doesn’t get TKO/KO. I think the odds don’t reflect the risk Prazeres represents but I do think Rakhmonov has all the advantages and should win this fight.

+ Height and reach advantage

+ Younger fighter

+ Better striking

Pick: Shavkat Rakhmonov to Win via Decision

I think the odds don’t reflect the risk Prazeres represents, but I do think Rakhmonov has all the advantages and should win this fight.

Danilo Marques vs. Kennedy Nzechukwu

Danilo Marques is a Brazilian fighting out of São Paulo, Brazil with a professional record (PR) of 11-2-0 and a UFC record (UFCR) of 2-0. He is currently ranked #32 light heavyweight worldwide. Danilo’s definitely a ground specialist. If he doesn’t get the submission in the first round or so, he’ll have a hard time getting the win against Kennedy.

Kennedy Nzechukwu is a Nigerian fighting out of Dallas, Texas with a professional record (PR) of 8-1-0 and a UFC record (UFCR) of 2-1. He is currently ranked #36 light heavyweight worldwide.

– Taking fight on short notice

+ Younger fighter

+ Reach advantage

+ Good takedown defense

Pick: Kennedy Nzechukwu to Win

Overall, I think Kennedy is the superior fighter. The only downside is the short notice but I think he’ll get it done.
