This past week has been pretty rough as a UFC fan.
Last week at UFC 259, Aljamain Sterling was awarded the Bantamweight strap after suffering an illegal knee from Petr Yan, ending their bout early.
Earlier today, Eryk Anders also landed an illegal knee against Darren Stewart, which was subsequently overturned to a no contest.
The hyped main event that heralded Leon Edwards’ return to competition against Belal Muhammad followed suit. After an impressive first round, Edwards landed two eye pokes on Muhammad, the latter of which sent him to the floor in tears.
The doctor was called in and we were shown in brutal nature the extent of Belal’s injuries. While crying on the floor with blood pouring from his eye, Belal simply stated “I can’t see anything”.
This bout was also determined to be a no contest, presumably due to the eye pokes being accidental, but is still an immensely disappointing result, especially after the earlier incidents in the week.
Hopefully we can get these fighters rebooked once Belal heals up from his injury.
