Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza suffered a vicious defeat this past weekend to Andre Muniz, where he was submitted with an armbar that shattered his upper arm. He had a successful surgery on the broken limb on Monday, and has since returned to Brazil.

Following his fourth straight defeat, Jacare has been removed from the UFC fan rankings, per Tom Feely of sherdog.com. Removal from these rankings almost always indicates a fighter’s removal from the promotion.

As further evidence, this was the final bout on Jacare’s contract, an eight-fight deal he signed prior to fighting Robert Whittaker in 2017.

At 41, Souza is a veteran of Strikeforce and the UFC and has been a staple of the Middleweight division since his acquisition. He is a multi-time Brazilian Jiu Jitsu world champion and is a fourth-degree black belt.

On a personal note, Jacare will always hold a special place in my heart, as he was the headliner on the first card I ever attended live.

Whether Souza continues fighting remains to be seen, but the Brazilian legend certainly has a storied career and will be remembered for his elite grappling and constant aggression.

The Octagon returns to the UFC Apex this Saturday, when top ranked Bantamweights collide as Rob Font takes on former champion Cody Garbrandt. Check out the main card predictions here.
