The final card of the year was fantastic from top to bottom, and in my opinion one of the best fight nights of the year. New and old contenders showed their skill with numerous finishes and dominating performances. Since the year of 2020 concluded tonight for fight fans here are the fights I think we are likely to see in 2021.
Marcin Tybura vs Andrei Arlovsky
The first fight of the main card started out rough for the heavyweight Marcin Tybura as he was outstruck by Greg Hardy in the opening round. Tybura made the correct adjustment in the second round by taking Hardy to the ground and after gaining top control finished Hardy. In 2020 Tybura showed that he belongs in the UFC as he is now on a four-fight win streak. As a reward for Tybura’s I believe the UFC should book a rematch between he snd Andrei Arlovski. Both fighters are veterans of the UFC a win for Tybura could resolidify him as a top ten heavyweight.
Rob Font vs Cody Garbandt
Rob Font just made a statement against Marlon Moraes with a first-round knockout. The precision and power shown by Font after a twelve-month layoff proved that he belongs in the top five of the bantamweight division. Font deserves a top five opponent, and this should be Cody Garbrandt. Garbrandt’s hopes of the flyweight title shot are currently on hold since it is likely the rematch between Figureido and Moreno is next for the division. If Cody wants to stay active the UFC should absolutely book this fight.
Michel Pereira vs Niko Price
In a razor thin decision, Michel Pereira looked sharp against the powerful Khaos Williams. Known for his acrobatics and athleticism Pereira was able to survive the strength of Williams and secured the victory with an impressive final round. With another victory in the UFC added to Pereira’s resume, he is knocking on the door of the top fifteen welterweights. In order for Michel to prove that he belongs with the top dogs, the UFC should book him vs Niko Price. Both contenders are exciting and a matchup between the two would be fireworks.
Jose Aldo vs TJ Dillashaw
The King of Rio made a triumphant return to the win column tonight and he showed that his striking is still incredibly sharp as well as his grappling. Aldo showed the significance of body shots and his victory proved to the world that Jose can compete as a bantamweight. That being said, two-time bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw is eligible to make his return in early 2021 and I can only imagine the striking prowess that we would see if these two fought.
Stephen Thompson vs Loser of Usman/Burns
Wonderboy has slowed yet another hype train in the welterweight division and he is still here to compete. He put on a masterclass against Geoff Neal for five straight rounds. Wonderboy deserves a top five opponent after beating two straight young contenders. Since the Welterweight division is held up at the top, I think Wonderboy will end up having to wait for Kamaru Usman to defend his belt. So, in my opinion the UFC should book Stephen Thompson against the loser of the next welterweight title fight.
